A
Flower That's Free
The sequel to ‘The Flowers of the Field’ and the only
time I’ve had writer’s block! Because of the success
of my first novel I found myself in a ‘follow that’ situation – and
I couldn’t. Or at least not until nearly two years later
when I hit on the idea of introducing an entirely new central character,
Kate Kingsley, around whom the saga of the Tennant family could
continue, enlivened by a fresh perception. The action covers the
years 1922 to 1946, and moves from Paris to East Africa, London
and Berlin. But again, it’s the personal and emotional side
of the story that interests me – Kate’s search for
love, and identity in a foreign country, among the strangers who
are her English relatives.
The title is taken from Noel Coward’s charming, sentimental
song ‘London Pride’.
