men are brutes’ book, of a kind which I suspect every woman
writer has to get out of her system at some point. Celeste is a
girl who has been continuously exploited and bullied – by her philandering
father and by her three self-centred brothers – from childhood
into her thirties. But when she falls in love with a man they all
disapprove of, she finds suddenly that she can play them at their
own game. The worm turns, and how! I adore writing about families,
and this particularly colourful, dysfunctional clan were an absolute
treat.
‘Be an angel’ is what we say when we’re asking
a favour, as the men in Celeste’s life do, all the time.
But they have no idea what sort of angel she’ll turn out
to be…
